About LVHS

Purchases of books, merchandise, event tickets, and memberships from the Lancaster Virginia Historical Society support our nonprofit mission to preserve, understand, interpret, and share more than 350 years of history and genealogy in Lancaster County and Virginia's Northern Neck, as carried out through our museum exhibits and historic buildings, research library collections, and public educational programs. Our historical society was formed in 1958 and previously named Mary Ball Washington Museum and Library in honor of George Washington's mother, who was born in Lancaster and whose family was among the early leaders of the county.
